Solar Pool Heating
Melbourne

Harness Melbourne's sunshine to heat your pool — the most cost-effective way to extend your swimming season by months.

Solar pool heating is one of the most cost-effective investments a Melbourne pool owner can make. By using your roof to collect free heat from the sun, you can extend your swimming season from around 4–5 months to 7–9 months — with minimal running costs. Weston Pool Co supplies and installs premium solar pool heating systems from leading brands, sized and positioned perfectly for your roof orientation and pool volume.

Low Running Costs

Once installed, solar heating has virtually no ongoing energy costs. The only power required is a small amount to run the circulation pump — often the same pump already running your pool filtration.

Extends Your Swimming Season

A properly sized solar system can take your pool from comfortably swimmable October through to April or even May — giving you months of additional use each year.

Compatible with Existing Systems

Solar heating works brilliantly alongside a gas or heat pump backup for the cooler months. Weston Pool Co can integrate solar with your existing setup or design a complete new system.

Minimal Maintenance

Solar heating systems have very few moving parts and require minimal servicing. Our systems come with manufacturer warranties and we offer ongoing support to keep things running smoothly.

PV-Compatible Design

Our solar pool heating systems are designed to work alongside rooftop PV solar panels — maximising the efficiency of both investments and reducing your overall energy costs further.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does solar pool heating work?

Pool water is pumped from the pool through solar collectors mounted on your roof. The sun heats the water as it passes through the collectors, and the warm water is returned to the pool. A controller monitors temperatures and automatically circulates water when the collectors are warmer than the pool.

How much roof space do I need for solar pool heating?

As a general guide, solar collectors should cover an area roughly equal to 50–80% of your pool's surface area. For a standard 8×4m pool, you'd typically need around 16–24 square metres of suitable north-facing roof space.

Will solar pool heating work in Melbourne's climate?

Absolutely. While Melbourne has variable weather, solar pool heating is very effective from September through to April, and with a backup heater, can provide year-round swimming comfort.

Can I combine solar heating with a heat pump?

Yes — this is our most popular combination. Solar handles the bulk of heating during spring, summer and autumn, while the heat pump tops up the pool during cooler periods and overcast stretches.
